The dose makes the poison: Non-linear behavioural response to CO2-induced aquatic acidification in zebrafish (Danio rerio)

چکیده
CO2-induced aquatic acidification is predicted to affect fish neuronal GABAA receptors leading widespread behavioural alterations. However, the large variability in magnitude and direction of responses suggests substantial species-specific CO2 threshold differences, life history parental acclimation effects, experimental artifacts, or a combination these factors. As an established model organism, zebrafish (Danio rerio) can be reared under stable conditions for multiple generations, which may help control some observed wild-caught fishes. Here, we used two standardized tests investigate effect 1-week acclimatization four pCO2 levels on anxiety-like behaviour, exploratory locomotion. Fish acclimatized 900 μatm demonstrated increased behaviour compared (~480 μatm), however, exposed 2200 was indistinguishable from that controls. In addition, 4200 had decreased behaviour; i.e. opposite response than treatment. On other hand, did not differ among any exposures were tested. Thus, elevated are linear; with potential important implications physiological, environmental, studies.

Danio Rerio, the Zebrafish
The zebrafish has long been a favourite model for the study of vertebrate development. Here we provide an overview of the current state of knowledge and resources for the study of this fish, with comments on the future direction of zebrafish genomics from Professor Mark Fishman and Dr Stephen Wilson.
متن کاملWavelength dependence of the optomotor response in zebrafish (Danio rerio)
The action spectrum of motion detection in zebrafish (Danio rerio) was measured using the optomotor response in the light adapted state. The function has a single maximum at 550-600 nm, and is similar to the spectral sensitivity function of the L-cone type in the mid and long wavelength range. At shorter wavelengths the values of three of the five fish tested are lower. As in goldfish [Vis. Res...
متن کاملLPS response and tolerance in the zebrafish (Danio rerio).
Zebrafish (Danio rerio) has been used in the present work to study the fish response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exposure and LPS tolerance. These mechanisms are not completely understood in mammals and, presently, are totally unknown in fish. Zebrafish larval survival was assessed following treatment with various types of LPS at a variety of concentrations to determine the sensitivit...
متن کاملBrain Transcriptomic Response to Social Eavesdropping in Zebrafish (Danio rerio)
Public information is widely available at low cost to animals living in social groups. For instance, bystanders may eavesdrop on signaling interactions between conspecifics and use it to adapt their subsequent behavior towards the observed individuals. This social eavesdropping ability is expected to require specialized mechanisms such as social attention, which selects social information avail...
متن کاملMyelopoiesis in the zebrafish, Danio rerio.
Genome-wide chemical mutagenesis screens in the zebrafish (Danio rerio) have led to the identification of novel genes affecting vertebrate erythropoiesis. In determining if this approach could also be used to clarify the molecular genetics of myelopoiesis, it was found that the developmental hierarchy of myeloid precursors in the zebrafish kidney is similar to that in human bone marrow. Zebrafi...
